Every year over 3,500 people are killed on UK roads and around half a million are injured. Many suffer serious, life changing brain injuries
or spinal injuries
that have an immense impact on both the individual and their family.
Early rehabilitation and interim payments
We pride ourselves on focusing on you and your family’s needs and helping you to achieve the best outcome from the legal process. Often this is not just a question of compensation, but perhaps in the early stages of the case arranging access to private rehabilitation
or seeking an interim payment
for necessary equipment or suitable accommodation so that you can be discharged from hospital more quickly than would otherwise have been the case.
Insurers, police and traffic accident reports
We liaise with the insurers and the Police to understand what happened in relation to your road collision. For clients injured through road traffic collisions where liability is not admitted by defendants, we can arrange for an accident investigation and reconstruction report which includes preparation of plans, photographs, witness statements, and sometimes video recordings and computerised simulation. This report provides evidence to support your case for compensation against defendant insurance companies.
Uninsured or Untraced Drivers
If you have suffered an acquired brain injury or spinal cord injury because of the actions of an uninsured driver or an untraced driver, you should be able to claim compensation via the Motors Insurers' Bureau (MIB). The MIB is a non-profit-making organisation set up by motor insurers to compensate victims of uninsured or untraced drivers and may also be able to assist with your legal fees.
However, as experts in the field of road traffic accident claims, our overall aim is to ensure that you achieve the maximum compensation as quickly and efficiently as possible.
At Leigh Day, our lawyers have represented brain or spinal injured drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists and motorbike riders in claims for compensation following road crashes in the UK and abroad. We also represent families at inquests where their loved ones have been killed as a result of dangerous driving or in road traffic crashes.
Campaigning for safer roads
Our team is acutely aware of the importance of the campaigning work done by road safety charities such as Brake and Roadpeace to prevent death and serious injury on our roads. Many of the crashes and collisions that happen in the UK are preventable, and systematic failures such as lack of safety mirrors on lorries and HGVs must be tackled. Leigh Day lawyers see the devastating human consequences of these crashes. We therefore avidly support the enforcement of a robust and rigorous legal system that will not let drivers off the hook when they injure or kill. As a firm, we are actively involved with a number of charities in supporting their work to reduce collisions on our roads. Leigh Day sponsors Brake's Justice and Support campaign for crash victims and has also worked with Brake on campaigns about young drivers.
